History of the CalHERO Home Loan
The CalHERO™ Home Loan was developed in 2015 as a low down payment and low cost alternative to the discontinued CalSTRS®80/17 Teacher loan and CalPERS® public employee home loan program that were available to most of California's Law Enforcement, Firefighter, Teachers, and Nursing community up until 2010 and 2012.
The old CalSTRS and CalPERS home loans were excellent loan options but due to the housing collapse of 2008, several documented risks of the CalSTRS and CalPERS mortgage programs jeopardized the organizations financial stability which led to their ultimate suspension in 2010 (CalPERS) and 2012(CalSTRS).
We simply decided to step up and do what we can to help our California heroes achieve their goal of affordable home ownership and developed the CalHERO Home Loan.
